The Ducks (16-2, 5-0) are the lone unbeaten team in the Pac-12 an {keyword} d off to their best conference start since 1974. "It's a great feeling," forward Arsalan Kazemi told reporters about entering the rankings last week. "I'm not going to lie about it. It was one of our short-term goals. I'm really happy to be ranked. But it's always easier to get there than stay there." The Ducks not only are staying; they're moving up. They jumped from No. 21 to No {keyword} . 16 in the Associated Press poll after road wins against USC and UCLA, ending the Bruins' 10-game winning streak. With ramped-up defense under coach Dana Altman, balanced scoring, veteran leadership and freshman spunk, the Ducks are giving no reasons to be counted out of the conference race. The Pac-12 was supposed to belong to Arizona a team the Ducks also beat with a possible challenge from UCLA. The No. 6 Wildcats still are favored, but Oregon is the surprise of the conference, and maybe the country. Team of the week: Florida. The Gator mascot should be remade holding a blowtorch between its teeth. Florida toasted Missouri, albeit without Laurence Bowers. A 31-point win? The Gators clearly are the SEC's top team. Player of the week: When Superman scoops Lois Lane in midair from a fall off a building, he's the hero. So I've got to go with Butler's Roosevelt Jones, who snagged Gonzaga's inbounds pass out of midair and turned it into a game-winning shot at Hinkle Fieldhouse. Games to watch: Tuesday: Kansas at Kansas State. Bill Self versus Bruce Weber. Enough said, right? Illinois fans will tune in to see the matchup of former Illini coaches. Wednesday: Colorado State at New Mexico. Both are tournament-ready teams. The Rams can prove just how ready with a victory at The Pit. Duke at Miami. Blue Devils can't take the Hurricanes likely. After all, Miami is the ACC's lone unbeaten team. Sunday: Michigan State at Indiana. T {keyword}he Hoosiers have been off their game the last three while suffering only one loss. The Spartans are heating up at a good time. Twitter @sryantribune
